Secondary Hypertension Updates in Hypertension and Cardiovascular Protection
by This book offers an overview of the latest advances in the epidemiological, pathophysiological, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of secondary hypertension, provided by a group of the most highly respected European experts in this field. It is common belief that secondary forms of hypertension are rare, although in 95% of patients the cause of high blood pressure is unknown – euphemistically referred to as “essential”. There is increasing evidence from epidemiological studies that the prevalence of secondary hypertension is much higher than previously thought, accounting for 20%-25% of all hypertensive patients. There are additional, very good reasons for identifying those patients with secondary hypertension: firstly, they are exposed to a greater risk of suffering major cardiovascular events than patients with essential hypertension who have the same blood pressure level, and for this reason require particular care. Secondly, these patients can be relieved of a lifetime of pharmacological therapy or, at least, have a chance to be treated with more specific and effective medications. A high degree of clinical skill is required to recognize the often vague and subtle symptoms and signs that characterize patients with secondary hypertension, and clinicians need to fully comprehend the mechanisms responsible for the development and maintenance of high blood pressure. Shedding new light on a complex area of cardiovascular medicine, the book enables readers to better treat affected patients.- Sale!An Essential Introduction to Cardiac Electrophysiology

EACVI Handbook of Cardiovascular CT
Since its clinical introduction almost 20 years ago, cardiac CT has been embraced as an indispensable noninvasive cardiac imaging modality and an important first-line test for coronary artery disease. Beyond coronary artery disease, the potential of cardiac CT has become evident for diagnosis and guidance of treatment in a variety of other cardiac pathologies, including valvular disease, atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias, endocarditis, cardiac masses, cardiomyopathies, and others. The European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) has declared as one of their foremost priorities to facilitate education and training in cardiovascular CT through teaching courses, congresses, and a structured certification program. This handbook represents an important step towards dissemination of skills and knowledge in cardiovascular CT. It is a concise and practical companion, to benefit students, trainees or advanced users; cardiologists, radiologists, cardiac surgeons or technicians, in their everyday practice. Four broad sections cover technical aspects and physical background, coronary indications (e.g. coronary CT angiography, atherosclerosis imaging, stents & bypasses, functional CT imaging, etc.), non-coronary indications (CT for valve disease, infective endocarditis, CT of the left atrium, congenital heart disease, cardiac masses, extracardiac findings, etc.), and finally training and competence in cardiac CT. The handbook features short chapters, enriched with illustrations, tables and condensed summaries, facilitating rapid and intuitive access.Product details

Clinical Manual of Total Cardiovascular Risk
by Over the last 10–20 years, there has been an increasing appreciation of the need to manage individual risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the context of overall cv risk rather than on the basis of the absolute level of any given risk factor. This approach has given rise to the misnomer “global risk” and gen- ated extensive “lip-service” around this more broad-minded approach to managing risk factors and the prevention of CVD. This short book was devised with the idea of providing a practical summary of the rationale for management based on estimated total CV risk and the various methods associated with so-doing. Practical issues are addressed including treatment thresholds and targets for the major risk factors on which we routinely intervene, and a brief descr- tion of the major means of these interventions is provided. Whilst a multifactorial approach to CV prevention is logical and reflects the pathophysiological processes which underpin the formation of athe- sclerosis, the evidence base to guide practice using estimated CV risk (“global risk”) as a threshold for intervention is essentially non-existent. Meanwhile, pending supportive evidence from randomized trials, prac- cal, pragmatic, and cost-effective approaches to preventing CVD, which is the current biggest contributor to global mortality and burden of disease, is urgently required. The hope is that this book may make a small contribution toward reducing the horrendous burden which CVD currently imposes on the world. - Sale!

Management of Atrial Fibrillation A Practical Approach
by Atrial Fibrillation is becoming a twenty-first century epidemic. It remains the most common form of sustained arrhythmia with significant mortality, morbidity and cost to the health care system. It is the most common cause of hospital admissions among all arrhythmias. Its prevalence increases with the aging population and is often associated with many other cardiac and noncardiac conditions, most notably congestive heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, and coronary artery disease. Although significant progress in understanding the epidemiology, natural history and mechanism has been made, the antiarrhythmic therapy in patients with Atrial Fibrillation is less satisfactory.Management of Atrial Fibrillation: A Practical Approach is the perfect pocket guide for those who care for patients afflicted by Atrial Fibrillation. From the history of the condition and the subsets of patients, to therapeutic and preventive procedures, Management of Atrial Fibrillation comprehensively covers all aspects in managing this increasingly prevalent disorder. Written by leading authorities in the field with vast experience in practical medicine, the book creates a clinically orientated, evidence based "fast fact" type resource for cardiologists, trainees and related healthcare professionals. - Sale!
Tips and Tricks in Interventional Cardiology
by This book “Tips and Tricks in Interventional Cardiology” focuses on key procedures and techniques involved in interventional cardiology. Interventional cardiology has proliferated as the first approach in managing coronary artery disease. This book comprises of 15 chapters that discuss a number of practical concepts that will advance the skills of an interventional cardiologist in the catheterization laboratory. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was introduced by Andreas Grüntzig in 1977, after that alternative percutaneous approaches to balloon angioplasty (atherectomy, laser, stents have been introduced. Interventional cardiologists have now expanded their skills to structural interventions (ASD, VSD, PFO, valvular heart disease) and peripheral interventions (carotids, subclavian, renal, iliac). First chapter discusses the needs and requirements of PCI. Following chapters discusses PCI—work station, access, hemodynamics in Cathlab, radiographic views, guide catheters, guidewires, balloons—the balloon catheters, drug eluting stents and non-angiographic lesion assessment. In addition, the book also covers drugs used in cathlab, difficult subsets, structural heart disease, congenital heart disease and complication of percutaneous coronary intervention. - Sale!

Cardiology An Illustrated Textbook
The Book “Cardiology: an Illustrated Textbook (2 Volumes)” is divided into 15 sections and emphasizes on the substantial progress that has been occurred in the understanding of coronary circulation, the molecular mechanisms of myocyte function and in the assessment of regional and global ventricular functions in physiologic and pathologic conditions. The advantages, disadvantages and clinical pharmacology in the management of various cardiovascular disorders of diuretic therapy, vasodilators, neurohormone modulators, positive inotropic agents, antilipid, antithrombotic and antiplatelet agents have been discussed. Molecular imaging and three-dimensional echocardiography; intravascular ultrasound imaging; advances in the nuclear, cardiovascular computerized tomographic and magnetic resonance imaging along with their diagnostic techniques and applications in the practice of cardiology have been extensively discussed. The role of rest and stress, electrocardiography and echocardiography has been accentuated. The new therapeutic modalities for the management of chronic coronary artery diseases have been discovered and devoted to discuss. The diagnosis and management of valvular heart disease and heart failure are discussed in detail as well as chemotherapy and radiation-induced cardiovascular disorders. The progress in vascular biology, genetics and pharmacogenomics, and cardiology has also been considerable. In recent years, awareness of the cost of health care, errors in the practice of cardiology and gender and geographic differences in the incidence, diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disorders has risen. This textbook addresses these important and controversial topics.
